I'm currently in the process of building my first AR. I decided to go with a Spike's stripped lower, enhanced lower parts kit, and carbine buffer assembly kit. So far, I have been really impressed with everything, with one exception. I was disappointed to see that the buffer tube is gray as opposed to black. I am not real picky, but it is a really noticeable difference. I have heard great reviews for the product so I am sure I will be happy with how it shoots once installed, which is really what counts. Still, I was hoping someone might have a recommendation of a paint/finish etc. that I could apply that would be durable, not flake, and have a matte finish to match the receiver. Thanks for your input.

The gray color is from the dry film lube that is on the exterior of the tube. It is mil-spec and there for a reason. I would recommend not painting over the gray coating. Spike's buffer assemblies are some of the finest mil-spec receiver extensions made. Buy one, install it, and shoot it.

Ok excellent thank you for the reply. I didn't realize that it was supposed to be like that. Still learning the AR ropes. I will certainly leave it as is. I appreciate the help.
