Hello,
I'm currently half way home on my first AR. I purchased a complete ST lower receiver about a month ago and can't wait to marry it with a mid-length upper. Here is my question(s)

My preferrence at this point is an upper with a BAR/SAR rail, hidden gas block, and a folding front sight. With that configuration am I better off going with a 9" or 12" rail?

If I change my mind and go with a fixed front sight, I'm assuming I should go with a 9" rail. Ideally I'd like to keep the firearm on the lighter side.

Last question. Other than weight, what are the advantages/disadvantages of a BAR vs. SAR rail?

Thanks for all your advice!

Tony

In reverse order.

BAR vs SAR is weight, width, and barrel nut. The rest about them is pretty much the same.

Yes, if you prefer to keep the front sight base, it would be a 9" rail.

We would only build a midlength with a FSB if it has a gas block and a 10" or 12" rail. I would go 12" over 10".
