Im contemplating my next AR-15 build, and want to build a special, Long range(300m-400m) 5.56 rifle, I was considering a 20" - 24" Bull/ Heavy barrel with a 1:9 twist, as I own a bunch of XM855 62gr. rounds and have heard that the 1:12 only plays well with 55gr bullets.

I just have noticed that most manufactures do not make barrels longer than 20" and was wonder WHY? and if it had something to do with all the ballistic's that change from different length barrels.

If you are wanting to look seriously into such a weapon. Find a forum or site that deals with National Match weapons and competitions. The people in those circles will steer you in the right direction. Just know these people spend a lot on their guns and typically build the guns from scratch themselves.

Well I went an ordered the first half of my parts today, including the bead blated 26" kreiger(the more I read about there barrels the more I wanted one).

The only thing im kinda stuck on is picking up a free float tube of some kind, I have google imaged serveral type of free floats and cant decide all I know is I want one long enough to cover the front low profile gas block, so it needs to be at least 13" or longer, I have looked at spikes 13.2" SAR and Midwest industries two 15" monsters. I cant decide on which I like better. Thoughts?

I called up kreiger, My barrel is now in the works, its just like the 26" in the above picture, but with 6x 1/4" Fluts down the length of it, wait time, approx 12-16weeks from making it to having them fit and install the barrel to my upper(this also includes installing the Troy low profile gas block, Spike rifle gas tube and Troy 15" free float tube). I will end up with a completed upper minus the Charging handle when its done. All cashed out it cost me a tad more than $700.00 for the barrel and install, this is not counting all the other stuff... Now I just have to find out where my wallet ran off to :o
