I'm looking into building my very first ar-15...So I obviously would appreciate any insight you guys might have. I also have a few questions if anyone could help me out it'd be greatly appreciated.

I'm wanting to build an ar with spike's tactical's bio-hazard upper and lower stripped receivers. I'm just worried about heat and reliability when it comes to billet aluminum. What are some of the issues i might run into using a billet aluminum upper and lower?

I want my ar to be accurate out to about 500 yards...is this realistic? And what barrel length would you suggest?

Any tips for reducing recoil and improving accuracy?

Gas piston or DI?

And advise you could give me on any or all of these question would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advanced. From what I've read in the forums here already people here seem to be very knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks again.

My suggestion would be to start basic - you will have more than 1 rifle ( trust me ) this will allow you to learn the AR platform and get familiar with it , a basic 16" M4 carbine is capable of the accuracy you mentioned ( it ain't the arrow , it's the Indian )

A stripped lower with a good quality lpk

223/5.56 does not recoil much , but a good quality muzzle break ( dynacomp ) will help

Buy a complete upper / BCG assy,
I would suggest an 16" ( or possibly an 18" ) Spend a little extra money on upper , BCG , barrel ,
Aim surplus has some wicked good FN barreled upper assy

Good luck , and have fun

Di is more accurate than piston. And please don't let anyone convince you that di runs so dirty that it will fail. At least not in a quality gun. Billet is weaker than forged unless you add material to compensate for this.
What accuracy are you expecting? Minute of angle, minute of man?
For an ar, muzzle brakes and compensators do little to nothing to help accuracy.
a good two stage trigger. Lmt jewel giselle make good ones.

And how does the Spikes Biohazard upper and lower Billet compare to a regular forged upper and lower?

What about those who use polymer lowers and/or uppers?

Sent from my Commodore 64..
READY.
