Hello, I love my Spikes 16 inch LE upper . It works flawlessly every time and each time I read about anything that is a high quality part of an upper the Spikes has it .. There was a review of different bolts and carriers on you tube and allthou Spikes wasn't one of the ones reviewed everything the expert explained about a Great bolt and carrier was on/in the Spikes Bolt..
Sorry OK the question . I only use my Spikes at the range 100 yards 1moa no problem with my scope .... But ... would there be any advantage of having a longer ..maybe 20 inch barrel .. I read a lot ... Higher velocity = even easier moa results and the possabilaty of shooting out to 200 yards allthou the 3-9 power scope might not be strong enough ???
Am I thinking too much ? Leave well enough alone ?? I hope I will never need this in a bad situation however I have read about the velociy at short ranges with short barrels not allowing the .556 ammo to do it's intended job .. Tumbleing or fraging ..
I guess the answer may be 16 inch and 20 inch each have good and not so good properties .. So whatcha think ... Thanks , Don J.

With the right scope, support, and skill you can maintain accuracy out to 300 yards with your 16" barrel. Extending farther than that, you would want an 18-20" barrel. If you were dealing with shooting on irons, then you would look at minute of man accuracy, and the longer the sight radius the more accurate your irons are.
Are you going to be frequently looking to shoot farther than 200-300 yards? If not, you're probably over thinking things. Longer range means precision build time. =)

Or you could do like most of us. Have one of each. I run an 16 in. Spikes as my in house gun and something to teach my kids on. Then I have an 18 in. Lothar Walther Spikes thats set up for 3 gun and is a more precision rifle. I had an 20 in bull barrel one that I just sold. It was a little bit on the heavy side and a little long for getting in and out of the truck hunting hogs in my orange groves. I found the 18 in. is a perfect compromise between weight and long rang accuracy. Hope it helps.
