My new build. 16" lightweight DD barrel, 13.2" spikes SAR, ACOG TA01NSN, magpul BUIS, magpul moe grip and magpul ACS stock and 18T blackout for my M4-2000 (soon to be a M4-2000-08) BTW morgan, you have the AFG installed wrong. it should be as far forward as you can mount it.

bp: with the size of his handguard, the difference is an inch or two; not really worth calling him out on, is it?

Bp: does it really matter that much? And btw, i just threw it on like that when I put it together because it felt right at the time. Since then I have moved it. That is assuming you meant Logan and not Morgan.

Actually, it is important, but my "tone" was interpretited incorrectly (by more then one person it seems) so for that I apologize. It was intended in a "FYI, if your interested, this is how" not a "you idiot, this is how you do it!" type of way. And your right, it doesn't change its position much, but magpul is pretty adamant about positioning your grip as far forward as possible for recoil control. placing it up near the magwell makes recoil control on follow up shots much more difficult. After practicing it and trying a VFG in just about every spot on my rail over the years (including right in front of the magwell) I think I agree with them. I bought one (AFG2) to "try" and see if I liked the device (I already like the grip method). I think it works wonderfully on a longer handguard like the rifle I just built, but not so well on a carbine (like mine, or the other posters). I have a Noveske 10.5" coming, with their rail, and I ordered the magpul "mini" RVG because after using both I think the mini RVG is a better choice for 7-9" rails, even using the same grip method. The AVG just swallows up to much rail space on a carbine. So in closing, sorry if it came across as harsh, it was not meant in that way. And nice rifles, both of you.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jumb5150/5913977018/I have a question concerning the Spikes rail in the above photo. If you look closely to the area against the receiver on the top portion, you can see a rounded raised part. I received my upper today (SAR) and three out of four areas have what I can only describe as a "blob" of aluminum at about ten, two and five o clock. Sorry about linking to your Flickr account

It is the welding where the rail body is attached to the mounting clamp.

Is that a 14.5" barrel with a 13.2" rail? I may switch to that config due to back order issues with 12" SAR...

I like the ACS, it helps to "balance" the gun.
