Can somebody tell me why the need of breaking in a new barrel? i see some people say just shoot the damn thing and clean it, others recommend to break in the barrel, others say it depends on the barrel type or material and so on and on. is this really necessary and if so what should be the way to do it?
Thanks.

The debate has been going on for a long time.
I did the whole first five rounds you clean the barrel after every shot, clean the barrel every 10 shots for the rest of 100 shots break-in procedure for my 10/22 bull barrel. Did it help the barrel any? I don't know, but I did it anyways because I figured it wouldn't hurt and I had the spare time to do it. I'de do this to any rifle that I'm really going to go for accuracy but I don't really buy into ether side, I just did it out of spite.
With my AR, I inspected it, lubed it up with CLP, then shot the piss out of it. It's still functioning today and I'm shooting 2" groups at 50 yards using only iron sights (resting of course).
When I get my SPR upper, I'll probably do the barrel break-in procedure. Again, I don't know if it actually does anything to help my accuracy, but I'll do it anyways.

I don't think it matters all that much. I broke my rifle in using about 200 rounds of XM193. It no problems whatsoever and have since switched to practicing with mostly steel cased ammo. My opinion, as long as you have a quality barrel with chrome lining, you shouldn't need to follow any specific break in procedures.

Correct. ST does not prescribe to any regulated break-in procedure. Just clean it before you take it out the first time and then have at it.
I also suggest that any weapon, whether it be rifle/shotgun/handgun, should be cleaned after each outing before you put it back in the safe/locker/closet/etc.
