So, hopefully, my wait is coming to an end. Sadly, I've realized that my upper is going to be coming sans sights. It is totally an oversight (get it?) on my part.

So time to rectify that little error.

I've pretty well narrowed it down to the Samson and the Troy's offered by Spikes (both are flip up style BUIS).

Can anyone offer an thoughts on which to go with and why?

Thanks!

Reading online, everyone seems to love the Troys, and no one really seems to use the Samsons.

A few differences I could find though, are that the Samson sights are spring loaded and easier to deploy, but the Troys have 2 locks so they will stay up even if one breaks.

I've also heard that the Troy sights are lower profile, but the Samson sights have a better release button.

So no help from online so far!

You have a few trains of thoughts when it comes to BUIS. The Troy fans hate spring loaded because they feel that it is one more thing to break. The spring loaded fans like something that deploys with minimal effort in a high pressure situation. And then you have the fixed sight crowd. They prefer something that they can always see and transition to without any manipulations, plus don't have to worry about any issues that could arise from the use of any flip up sights.

Well, I like the spring loaded flip ups, but I also like the lower profile, so it sounds like everything else is fairly equal...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..................

Are there any issues fitting optics over the samsons?

And do they have similar sight pictures?

The sight height is the same for all, as they are designed to work off of military height front sight bases. Picture is the same with the rear ring and only variances between models is the AR style and the HK style front post hood. There are a couple brands that off low height sets for rifles with higher than normal rails (i.e. HK416's, POF415's).

Whether the rear will clear a specific optic depends on the height of the mount on the optic.

FWIW, I have decided to buck the trends and go with the Samson sights.

I like the fact that they are spring loaded. I'm sure Troy makes a quality setup as well, but I figured I'd go for the fun factor for now haha.

I've been using Samson products for years. They are very under rated.

I have a spikes build with Samson front and rear flips and another with Samson rear and fixed front.
I use them on duty without issues. I'm waiting on another Spikes upper that will come with Samson sights.

Glad to hear it! I'm excited to give them a whirl.

Don't mean to poke into your thread but I had a question regarding Samson sights. I was planning on going with the YHM single rail gas block and using the Samson flip ups. Since I'll be attaching it to the single rail gas block would i need to get the Gas block height version or standard rail? Your help is appreciated!

I dont mind you asking in my thread at all! It's my understanding that if you're going with a rail mounted sight, you need one for that height, otherwise it will be too low. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can answer that though.

I need to amend my earlier post. I'm going with Troy sights now.

Which YHM gas block? There are 3 models of single rail gas blocks made by YHM. One is receiver height, and two are not.

Here is what pulled off their sight, I'm guessing standard height front sight with this? Or gas block sight?

"This gas block replaces your existing front sight and allows the use of dovetail mounted accessories. Installs easily with two cap screws onto barrels of .750 or .625 diameter under the front sight."

Single Rail Gas Block .750 (YHM-9385A) $67.00

That model would need "gas block height" front sight. The model that accepts standard "same plane" front sights is YHM-9388.
