Both of them are pretty rare calibers still. But 6.8 is slightly cheaper, more companies make the round, and more places carry the round.
That is how I would look at it.

Just me, but if you are really trying to build a weapon for SHTF (when ammo could/will become scarce), you will want something chambered for one of the most common calibers out there. .223, 9mm, 7.62x39, .45, .30-30, .308, and .30-06 come to mind. Just my opinion.

I think 6.8 is gonna gather more steam which will lead to cheaper ammo. At least I hope.

I agree, it is gaining a large following and more manufacturers are increasing the number of different loads they produce. it has become fairly popular for hunting. It will be more readily available in the future.

6.5 Grendel is by far the more capable round. Its terminal ballistics are miles and miles beyond the 6.8. I currently have a 6.5 and a 6.8 both are perfect out to 300 meters but once you get beyond that the Grendel starts to shine and the SPC just cant keep up.

Grossly overstated, Arsenal. The facts are out there. The 6.5 does lend itself better to long range applications, but the 6.8 has short range advantages. "Miles and Miles Ahead" is failed terminology.
Most Military/LE applications of the 6.8 aren't for 300+ yard scenario, for that we still have the trusty 7.62 nato, which spanks the 6.5 in long range application and is literally "Miles and Miles ahead" Oh yes let's not forget the .300 win mag widely in use.
I'm a bit tired of seeing the 6.8 down played when I believe it to be the best thing to happen to CQB rifles in ages. With twice the grain weight projectile delivery on average of it's indisputibly effective cousin, the 5.56, low recoil, AND the fancy of MORE ammunition manu's than 6.5, It's here to stay. UMC is now making plinking ammo in this caliber. If that's not a sign of the times I'm not sure what is.

When Wolf starts making it there is officially a big market for it. Haha
Would love to see Wolf in 6.8 and 300BLK.

I reload my 6.5 and my Dad is picking up a 260 Remington upper for his dpms set up , so there's an incentive for buying 6.5 caliber bullets, which are waaaaayyy more available than 6.8. That's providing you're going to reload, which I recommend unless you like twiddling your thumbs waiting for mass production from companies like wolf.

Correct. Barrel, bolt, and magazine are the difference.
