The forum isn't a very busy place. But I was just wondering if anyone had or liked AK's much. Mine gets a bit neglected now that I have an AR (soon to be two). I just thought I'd open up a discussion on AK's.
Mine is a Chinese Mak-90 and it has an ace side folder with internal receiver block. Quite frankly I'm not sure what else to do with it and all my money is getting poured into AR projects one way or another. I'd like to upgrade it a bit later down the road (much later due to budget constraints), but I know there's a limit seeing as how you will never make an AK more ergonomical than an AR and by the time you do you'd probably be better served with just getting an AR.

Never cared for rebuilt commie weapons myself, but I could understand the appeal of a cheap old weapon that you don't care about and throw cheap old ammo (or new factory ammo) through.

I've got an Arsenal SGL21, Russian Saiga. It is one of my favorite guns to shoot. I got the Arsenal because I like that it is built using all new parts

the first "evil" guns i ever got into where ak's...i lived in ny at the time and got what i could...ever since escaping to the south (ny to sc to fl)i've upgraded to all the evil features i could get my hands on....in fact,i used to work for a sub-contractor for century in the carolinas....our shop of 11 guys built/test-fired/shipped 150 rifles a week from boxes of parts......dead nuts reliable and i can build a damn fine commie gun any day of the week.....here's a few i built.... romainian underfolder...this is the 1st ak i ever built...it was originally a fixed stock ak that i converted to an underfolder- "kyber"ak....romainian front end with a ak74 triangle side folder rear....almost as accurate as my spikes ar battlefeild pick up style yugo underfolder ak....as the dude who knew most about ak's at the shop i worked for,i personally inspected every pallet of parts...i got all the parts (exept for the receiver and barrel) over a 8 month period...all parts have some form of battle damage...

MY Norinco MAK-90, debanned with polytech stock and pistol grip and a Polish Radom magazine (with US baseplate and follower); replaced factory FCG with a Tapco G2 double hook setup. Now need to find someone that can replace the gas block and FSB for me; I have a set of Polish milled parts that should fit perfectly to complete the debanning. If anyoen knows someone that can help, let me know.

I've done my fair share of AR custom work, now working on AK's. Got a Norinco Mak-90 underfolder & just picked up a Draco with plans on SBR'ing it.....eventually. I've gotten into the 5.45 vs. 7.62 debate and it always ended up being 5.45 has amazing accuracy and 7.62 (obviously) has the great knockdown power.

i wouldn't mind getting an AK...just to have one...my preferences lie in a fixed stock and would probably be in the 7.62 caliber.
i think the 'political' aspects of these rifles are the most damaging to it's true personality, though; reliability, power delivered onto target, ease of operation all make for a desirable platform.
there are those who believe there will be the AK and Mosin after the world ends...

poor quality material and poorer quality manufacturing lend to reliability issues that nobody wishes to talk about. i have seen ak's lock up, fail to feed and eject, and let's not mention the minute of man accuracy. couple that with those lovely wood grips that will melt your hand off after a couple of speed drills and there is a reason why it costs 12.00 to make.

I kinda started with AK's and am now moving in to AR's My first AK was of course a WASR, that I Tacticooled the crud out of it: I eventually got another WASR and then moved in to an Arsenal SGL-21: And then I moved in to Old School, with a Polish AKM build: And now I am here with my Spikes

My Spikes Tactical Build with my Saiga AK-47. I converted the SAIGA and made it 922r compliant using a conversion kit, and TAPCO products. I like both weapons, its hard to say what weapon I would grab first if SHTF. Probably the AK since I have more ammo for it , however my AR-15 build is my favorite.

I own both AK's and AR's. I love both platforms, and have nothing bad to say about either platform. The only bad thing I have to say is about the elitists who think they know everything about AK's. I get really tired of people nit picking the AK saying the only true AK-47 are milled receivers and not stamped receivers.
I've got news for you. AKM is a version number. it's still an AK-47 whether you like it or not.
That's like saying a 3rd generation Glock is not a Glock because it's different than the original.
