I'm pretty sure this has been beat to death like a dead horse (or road kill on a freeway), but while I'm waiting on my order, I figured I might as well start stocking on ammo so when everything's complete with my AR, I can start shooting :D (hopefully ammo suggested by this poll) . Anyways, what's your favorite Stash Ammo for the "Rainy Days"?

Military grade XM855 on stripper-clips and in a sealed ammo can. 149.99$ at palmettostatearmory.com.
I paid 169.99 for the same stuff from them, so this is a great sale.

I can’t speak with authority because I am STILL waiting on my first AR (13 weeks and counting). :(
I have started to buy/stash ammo. But, I am not sure what on specific type of ammy you call “Stash Ammo.”
  • I have a small stash of M855 for HD/TEOTWAWKI, enough to preload 7 mags and have as many mags-worth backup on stripper clips, plus some left over to test fire on the range (always need to know how your ammo behaves).
  • I have a large stash of Lake City M193 that I will use for my personal training and target practice.
  • I have a very large stash of Tula ready for the kids to blow through for plinking (2 teenagers can blow through an amazing amount of ammo in a couple hours at the range, and I try to take them once or twice per month).
Online bulk ammo purchases are the norm for me. I live in the Fascist Commonwealth of New Jersey and I can’t afford the astronomical prices for ammo that precipitate from all the regulations the State imposes on our local retailers. So, I stockpile/stash twice the amount that I expect to shoot in a year and replenish what I consume yearly.
God help me if PoPo ever searches my basement. I’ll make the national news.
Hmm… Maybe I should think about learning to do my own hand loading.

Remember the old foot locker pirate chests we all had growing up? You need some of those, with a couple mods for proper sealing and some dessicant. Making the storage look like an old childhood relic draws less attention from the communist enforcers (and sheep minded workers) of unclean states. =)

And for the record, my emergency rifle rations are comprised of sealed battlepacks that are purchased whenever I can find them cheap enough. Doesn't matter if they are military or commercial loads, just that they are a brand I know goes bang (even steel, not like I would be policing my brass during civil unrest). I stick them in the bottom of the hurricane locker, with the MRE's.

Will have to review that strategy soon though, the MRE's are finally hitting expiration at the end of the year and I will likely be switching to assorted canned goods with pop tops. Ever since 2007, everyone wants an arm and leg for MRE's or commercial equivilents. Far more economical to use canned goods that cover a wide majority of nutritional needs -- especially when you have more than one mouth to feed now. I need to come up with a newer, easy to move storage solution to put it all in.

I made the MRE mistake. The fact that they only last 3 to 7 years means you have to rotate your stock. Then, what are you supposed to do with the expired stuff? It might make sense for avid campers who could use their out of date rations for camping. I am in the process of switching over to freeze-dried. 30 years!! I'll be 76 before I need to worry about rotating my stock. And, by then, I'll have the old-person mentality and won't mind eating the expired stuff.

After 6 Months of experimenting with my new Spikes M4-LE with billet lower, I have found the PMC X-Tac 62gr to be my favorite. Actually I have the best and most consistant results with the X-Tac and any other 62gr loads. The Federal XM855 from Palmeto on strippers mentioned above are also great.

Being Military, and waiting to build my first AR, my experiences only consists of M855's. With that being said the accuracy of M855's aren't even close to match ammo, but then again as long as you're hit by something, does it matter if it's match ammo or milsurp?

Just a thought, but how would a 5.45 conversion kit with a few spam cans of 7n6 work...anyone thought of trying that? as an aside. the ballistics of 5.45 are ridiculous for soft targets from what I've heard and seen

Since I'm waiting for my second ST complete build I answered to pass the time also. MY main stash is M855, good price, good reviews and My LMT and ST 16"Middy both like it.
