Hello, Trying to figure out which forearm to put on a new mid length upper . I'm looking at the weights of the different ones.
Can you please tell me the weight of the stock mid length double heat shield the uppers come with?? This
will help to figure how much extra weight each of the others will add , Thanks again, Don

Thanks for the reply .. I can go with the 13.2 BAR rail and only gain 11 oz that way .. Gonna need to change to the low profile gas block I realize but the end product will be what I'd like.. Thanks again,Don

If you already have a FSB on your barrel, get a LaRue low profile block. It is extended to cover the entire gas seat and will hide the taper slots that the FSB will leave behind.

Also, get a good gunsmith to do the swap for you if you are not well versed in building your own. Building from pure parts and rebuilding an existing product are two different skill levels.

Thanks for the reply .. Spikes Tactical has been really good to me. Answering my questions .
The mid length upper I received from Joeboboutfitters came in yesterday . I got it mounted to the lower I had purchased previously and really like it .. Can't wait to go try this setup.

As far as the forward handgrip . I only want to change it so I can mount accessories to it . Flashlight etc. .... But... The A2 front sight seems to be in the way of the scope I mounted also have a red dot which looks to be interfered with by the front sight ..So I'm thinking If wer'e gonna remove the A2 Front sight I might as well go for the free float front handgrip..

I like the idea of BUIS but will need to add a rear sight anyhow so I might as well get both as "Flip Up" style. I was an Auto Mechanic for 30 years and this cannot be anymore difficult than some of the fuel injection and Carbs I have dealt with... However I do realize it doesn't matter how good you are with your hands but KNOWING what to do at all times working on weapons . So I will look into having a gunsmith do this ..

For now the best answer I can think of is buy a rear sight and maybe some type of height addition for it then as I've heard you say ... Go and "Shoot the He-- out of it" Try it like it is before making changes ..

Thanks so much for all of the help.. Really sorry this is so long.. Don

In response to the notes on the A2 FSB, it sounds like you haven't shot with the scope or red-dot yet. I would say to at least give it a try with it on there; I have an aimpoint on mine and can tell you that the FSB does not give me any troubles, and is much less distracting than you may think. As to having a scope on there, I also use a Burris tripler behind it on occasion and the FSB blurs out, again not distracting. I'm sure that it will come down to personal preference, but if it doesn't cause any problem for you, leaning it alone will save a bit of money that you can put to other things. Enjoy it either way!

Find a riser mount for your optics. Then switch up to a Magpul MOE handguard. With that you can get light and foregrip attachments or rail segments to suit your needs.

Will come out cheaper than a full rail and no expense of a gunsmith.
