So I finally got my Glock 19 Gen 4 this weekend. I only shot 3 magazines but had errors 1 or 2 times PER MAG! I had 3 failure to feed, and 2 stove pipes. I started reading about the spring problems with the Gen 4. I ordered a 13 pound spring from glockmiester which is soposed to solve these problems.

I was shooting PMC ammo, but will probably try a good mix of different ammo tonight. I am thinking if the spring is too heavy, it should cylce normally using some +P loads which I will try as well. Does anyone else have anything similar with the Gen 4 model(s)?

the gen 4's have an issue that glock is trying to work around. it is in the recoil assembly. i have a buddy in miami that sent his back and it returned with a new recoil assembly and different springs. i have also heard that folks are getting the adapters to go back to the gen 3 single recoil system.

My new Glock 19 Gen 4 has been failing to feed. The first response I heard was 'loose or limp wristed' grip soaking up recoil and allowing it to jam. I'm a novice and thought well maybe that's it. Today, it jammed 6 times on a single clip! It's still new with just under 400 rounds total. A guy at the range with several Glocks had never seen the gold grease on the slide before. He recommended replacing it with oil.

Now I'm hearing Glock is replacing parts on this model. I couldn't find anything on their website about this problem. Before sending it in for repair, I would like to try thoroughly removing the grease and oiling it. The guy at the gun shop said I only had to lubricate the slide. Are there parts I shouldn't oil? Any suggestions or should I be on the phone with Glock trying to get new parts?

Glock doesn't send parts. You will have to arrange a service repair with them or a Glock certified armorer. The dual captive recoil spring system they took from Springfield doesn't work for them like it does in the XD/XDm pistols.

If you strip it of all grease, you only need to oil the contact points where the slide touches the rails, where it touches the barrel/chamber, and very lightly on the recoil system. Avoid getting oil into the striker assembly.

Less is more. Those pistols require i believe 6 drops of oil to function properly. And like jax said do not get any in the striker assembly or striker pin hole. The areas are illustrated in the manual.

Thanks for the oiling tips. I spoke with Glock customer service a few minutes ago. We verified the recoil spring in my gun is the newer version. He was asking me to send the gun to an armorer for replacement of something in the ejector mechanism. I clarified again, it's only jamming while feeding unfired rounds into the chamber. (They stick the slide part way open and sometimes come out with a pull on the slide. A couple of times I had to drop the clip to let them fall out of the handle. Not good!) The cust svc rep questioned the ammo. I've only fired Federal rounds from our local Walmart. He suggested trying a different ammo since the tip radii are different. Don't like the thought that ammo choices would be limited for reliability. For now, I've got a few boxes of Remington. Nice excuse to get back to the range at lunchtime.

Federal ammo wouldn't give you the problem. A weak mag spring, stiff recoil spring, or poorly angled feed ramp would usually be the cause a feeding problem like that.

Glock should've pulled back batches of these guns and got them right. Instead they are letting their reputation suffer.

I'm with jax on that one. I have had zero and i mean zero feed malfunctions through m g 21,30, 23, 29 17 and 19.
All told i'd say conservatively over 30000 rounds through all.

I have however had feed issues with 1911's.
glock is definitely paying with it's rep for the gen 4's

Back from the range with some Flip video footage - but nothing to report. 150 rounds of Remington and 150 rounds of Federal. No misfeeds, no problems, just a lotta of fun shooting. After the run with multiple misfeeds it's going to take a lot more than 300 clean rounds to regain my trust. I'll post again if anything new unfolds.

I actualy carry a gen 4 19 on duty and I've put over 1000 rounds through mine with zero issues with the gun. Ive run a range of ammo from Speer 124 GDHP, blazer 115 and 124 fmj aluminum and brass, brown bear steel, federal 115 from wally world, 147 grain, +p stuff you name it Ive put at least a full mag through as fast as I can squeeze the trigger just to test reliability. I did have 2 winchester rounds that had a wrinkle in the casing but that was an obvious ammo problem. I just bought a second gen 4 19 for my personal wepon and to work for another agency on the side. Ive only put 50 through the new one, Ive got to qual tomorrow, but I already would trust it with my life and I do every day.

I guess it is possible to get a falty spring, and even the highest quality products can have a bad egg slip through every now and again. Dont write it off, if you dont trust it, demmand a replacement gun be provided.

Glock is/was replacing the recoil springs on the G19 Gen4. You fill out a form online, then send you a new spring for free and you send the old one back. I just sold my G19 and bought an HK USP 45c in staineless steel. Hate to see it go, but I've gotten so used the USP triggers I wanted to stay uniform.

the earlier gen 4 had alot of the same problems....had to file down a little metal piece about the trigger that the slide was hitting...the newer gen4 are supposed to have this issue taken care of
