QUESTION ON MANUFACTURING BACK LOGS FOR FIREARM MANUFACTUERS AND SPIKES T. MAINLY BUT IN GENERAL AS WELL . IS THIS DUE TO GOVERMENT ORDERS TAKING PRIORTY DUE TO MID EAST TROUBLES LIKE THE LOOMING IRAN BUILD UP TO POSSIBLE CONFLICT ?? HAS THE GOVERMENT PUT ANY CILVILIAN RIFLE BUILDS/SUPPLYS ON HOLD TO PRIORITIZE BACK UP MILITARY SUPPLYS OR IS THIS A TRADE WAR ISSUE ON RAW MATERIALS DUE TO CHINAS FREE TRADE PRACTICES NOT ALLOWING CERTAIN METALS TO BE EXPORTED TO THE U.S.A. AND CREATING SHORTAGES OR IS IT JUST HIGH CILVILIAN DEMAND. SORRY BUT SOMETHING EFFECTING ALL FIREARM MANUFACTUERS THIS LONG AND DEEP HAS TO BE A MUCH BIGGER ISSUE THAN JUST NATIONAL CIVILIAN ORDERS. IM HEARING ALOT IN THE PIPELINE AND WONDERING IF BACK LOGS ARE MONTHS OUT NOT WEEKS OUT ?? I WOULD LIKE TO RECIEVE ORDER BEFORE _ _ IT HITS THE FAN AND BEFORE SUPPLYS DWINDLE DOWN TO LEFT OVER RUSSIAN 2ND HAND METALS. IM ALL GAME AT WAITING FOR QUALITY AND I KNOW IM NOT DUE YET BUT HOW BIG IS THIS PROBLEM REALLY ??

Ouch, that hurt to read.
Anyhow... The biggest reason for backlog is purely demand exceeding supply at every step of the way. We can't get receivers, barrels, etc fast enough because everyone has a ton of orders in. Vendors can't fill fast enough because they are waiting on blanks from forges. Forges are stretched too thin on capacity and there aren't that many forges cranking out the raw parts. From what I understand, to build new forges today would be investments in the hundreds of millions or even billions.
With uncertainty in the possible future government controls, that probably cannot justify the expensive or get financing to build additional facilities. During the Clinton AWB, many companies within the entire chain closed up from lack of demand and too much surplus in the market.
China buying up all our raw steel could have a strain on the price, but the supply of steel flowing into the forges likely doesn't change because they have preference on purchasing.
The military isn't buying as many new service weapons as it did last decade. Higher quality in the weapons as led to less full replacements and more unit armorer maintenance to keep weapons in service. And with all branches being ordered to reduce the fighting forces over the next few years, the armed forces demand will continue to decline.
At this time, it is purely speculation buying within the consumer space exceeding the viable supply within the backside of the market. Same thing that happened when the democrats won big in 11/2008.

THANKS FOR THE REPLY !WASNT TRYING TO STEP ON ANYBODY ! JUST WANTED A BIGGER PICTURE AS TO THE PROBLEM . WHEN BIG FACTORIES DEALING WITH D.O.D. FIREARMS REQUISITIONS FOR U.S.A. AND ALLIED COUNTERPARTS CANT HANDLE COMMERCIAL AND CIVILIAN LOAD CAPACITIES AT A TIME OF DECLINING MILITARY NEEDS (AS YOU ANSWERED) ALONE RAISES MANY QUESTIONS AT A TIME OF GROWING TENSIONS WORLDWIDE - IS JUST PLAIN SCARY !. LAST NIGHT OBAMA GOT THE POWER OF EXECTIVE ORDER TO DECLARE MARTIAL LAW AND IF WANTED CAN ORDER A CEASE TO ALL GUN SALES AND MANFACTURING ON A INSTANT. MANUFACTURERS NEED TO LINK AND DISTRIBUTE TOGETHER AND IF MY INFORMATION IS RIGHT SPIKES IS NOW PART OF THAT NEW ( RCR GROUP - I THINK THATS THE NAME THAT IS A COALITION OF GUN COMPANIES OPERATING TOGETHER NOW TO EXPIDITE PARTS AND SUPPLYS TO DISTRIBUTORS AND GET THIS SHOW ON THE MOVE .BARRETS WEB SITE HAS BEE DOWN FOR A WHILE AND EVERYONE IS BACKLOGGED . HOPE WE CAN SOLVE THESE ISSUES

Timetoshoot, you aren't getting the hints that typing in all caps is considered as online yelling and rude, hence the subtle comments about their eyes.

I don't even care anymore about whether it is yelling or not. All caps is just difficult to read and prevents the user from being able to provide proper emphasis to parts of their digital speech -- which in effect can lessen its effectiveness and meaning when trying to convey their position.
Basically it is the digital equivalent of sounding like Ben Stein and nobody knows if you are angry, joking, serious, or indifferent on anything you say.
As to the political side, that is a whole other ball of wax that is best discussed on a politically active site, such as ar15.com; of which we are also active on.
